About Us

Tanner Hunt paddling on the river

Tanner Hunt

Tanner was born and raised in Iowa, but has spent the majority of his adult life living and working in the wild spaces of the western part of the US. During that time he centered his professional experience on designing and building ways for people to better connect with nature. He is a great appreciator of Corvids and other birds of high intellect. During his free time he enjoys practicing his wood joinery. Tanner is new to the Richmond area, but he is excited to bring his passions to Out Yonder!

Rob Duddy out on a hike

Robert Duddy

Rob was born in San Jose, Costa Rica and grew up moving around South America. Before arriving in Richmond (2021) he spent a few years in Maine and prior to that out west in the Rockies and Alaska.  Since finishing art school in 2011 he has been doing  carpentry, stonemasonry and earthworks for trails and conservation projects with a variety of public land agencies and non-profits. Since moving to Richmond he has been building treehouses and other outdoor features . He is a working Fine Artist and enjoys dancing in his underwear to Curtis Mayfield with his dog Diggity.

Michael Hirsch playing guitar

Michael Hirsch

Michael was born in Old Bon Air, Virginia. He grew up in a small family owned business that imported and sold oriental rugs. Michael has run his own business, Dirty Work LLC, for the better half of a decade as an all around Handyman in addition to garnering fine interior carpentry experience as an assistant to a local carpenter building custom cabinets, furniture, and bar remodels. Michael is a reasonably active musician around town. He enjoys dry heat and the occasional ice cream. One day he hopes to build his own backyard sauna.

Out Yonder was founded in November 2023 and is the sweet, sweet earth child of Michael, Rob and Tanner. When someone says something is "Out Yonder"; that something might be a secret fishing spot, a campsite that feels way too far away with many miles yet to go or some glorious bed of moss one might take a nap on (but don't really, you'll crush it.) Point is, you don't really know where that something is. The "not knowing" inspires a sense of wonder as you venture off towards this unknown place out yonder.

That sense of wonder usually comes a little more easily out in some vast wilderness, and we'll be sure to build you some darn good trails to help get you there. One thing is for sure though, that sense of wonder; it doesn't happen indoors. So if you can't  get out this weekend, or the next, then let us build something that will help you get a taste of it right there in your backyard.
